Five new eateries opening along 1.5-mile stretch in Canton

A patience-requiring, pothole-eliminating road-construction project in Canton Township is not stopping entrepreneurs from opening new restaurants and coffee shops along Canton Center Road.

Here are capsules of the five restaurants/coffee shops that are open/opening on the under-construction roadway between Ford and Warren roads:

Matari Coffee Co.

Located at 6124 N. Canton Center Road, the coffee shop celebrated a soft opening June 24 and appears to be doing a robust business judging by the large number of visitors who can be seen enjoying its offerings inside a stylish dining area.

The business’s website boasts that it features 100% organic Yemeni coffee beans

Papaya Market

Slated to open soon in the space formerly occupied by Planet Fitness at 6463 Canton Center Road, the Canton location will be the business’s fifth, joining sites in Detroit, Dearborn and Dearborn Heights.

According to producemarketprice.com, the company owns a huge warehouse where it sells produce and groceries for most markets and restaurants in metro Detroit.

“We are in business of wholesale and retail,” the site says. “We buy and sell all kinds of produce and groceries. Our fruits and vegetables are always fresh and our prices are competitive.”

Rao Gari Vindu

The owners are expanding to their restaurant in Farmington, Michigan, by opening a site at the northeast corner of Canton Center and Hanford roads. A sign on the front entrance door said the business is temporarily closed for renovations.

According to its website, the business offers “a taste of Indian cuisine with a wide variety of menu items. Vindu means ‘feast’ in the South Indian language … and that is exactly what we aim to provide.”

The eatery will offer sophisticated blends of Indian spices combining authentic Indian ingredients with an emphasis on healthy eating.

“Each dish is made with unique flavors from fresh ingredients to ensure the highest quality,” the post ensures. “Indian herbs and spices have been known for centuries to have numerous health and medicinal benefits and we incorporate these into every dish we prepare.”

Taiz

Filling the site of the former Balaji vegetarian-themed restaurant, Taiz specializes in Yemeni and Mediterranean cuisine.

The business offers eat-in, delivery and take-out options.

Located at 7209 N. Canton Center Road, the eatery recently celebrated a soft opening and appears to be doing a brisk business.

Goodlyfe Smoothie

The growing franchise, which currently has a restaurant on Rawsonville Road in Belleville, is known for its refreshing smoothies, healthy salads and delicious wraps.

Not yet open, the restaurant has been in the food business for over 10 years, focusing on “providing the best and healthiest food to our valued customers,” according to its website.

“We make it our highest priority to use quality ingredients in our wraps, salads, and smoothies.”

The business is owned and operated by first-generation Americans who pride themselves in serving our local communities in Michigan, the site added.
