New Henry Ford Health Center offers state-of-the-art care

Facility stands on property that was former home of area’s last Kmart

The former site of blue-light specials, the southeast corner of Haggerty and Ann Arbor roads in Plymouth Township is now the home of a 120,000-square-foot Henry Ford Health Center.

The state-of-the-art outpatient facility, which officially opened Sept. 6, fills the void left by property’s longtime tenant Kmart, which closed in November of 2017.

To meet its growing patient base in western Wayne County, Henry Ford Health System announced plans in 2019 to revitalize the site of a former Kmart in Plymouth Township with a new modern outpatient medical center.

The multi-story facility will provide specialty care services, as well as an emergency department and ambulatory surgery center. Gensler and Hobbs and Black Associates are the architects.

“In keeping with our ongoing strategy, this development will bring a comprehensive level of services to our growing base of patients in western Wayne County,” said Bob Riney, Henry Ford’s president of Healthcare Operations and chief operating officer.

The medical center will expand Henry Ford’s footprint in western Wayne to three outpatient facilities. The current facilities are at 14300 N. Beck Road in Plymouth and 6100 Haggerty in Canton.

Both provide primary and specialty care services and have a pharmacy onsite.

The new site will offer services for patients and families of all ages including cancer screening, cardiology, gastroenterology, integrative medicine like acupuncture and chiropractic care, lab services, orthopedics, a pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, and pharmacy. It will be staffed by more than 120 team members.

“We believe our patients will appreciate the vast array of high-quality services available to them close to home,” says Richard “Chip” Davis, Ph.D., senior vice president and CEO of Henry Ford’s South Market. “Our patients can also expect to see a number of innovative touches at the new medical center that will enhance their patient care experience.”

The facility was originally slated to open in 2021.
